Eco-Committee

Meet our new Eco Committee, who are on their journey to gaining the Eco-Schools Green Flag Accreditation for Baldwins Gate.

This week they started to carry out an environmental review to evaluate our school’s performance against nine Eco topics. Once they have completed the review they will go on to create the schools new Eco Action Plan!

National Ocean Trawler Packet Challenge

The UK alone currently discards 16 million crisp packets per day; 6 billion per year. Packets dating back to the 1960’s have been washing up on our shores, demonstrating the longevity of plastics in our oceans. The continual damage they can cause our wildlife is unforgivable.

Not only are fully-formed crisp packets damaging, but also the micro-plastics that emanate from them as they break down over time. This is devastating for the welfare of wildlife, and ongoing, the human race too.

We've applied to take part in the "Ocean Trawler Challenge".  We will be competing against other schools to see who can fill their trawler net with the most crisp and confectionery packets.

Collected packets will. be donated to organisations who can put them to good use (for instance, turning them into survival blankets for the homeless).

This initiative is being led by the British Ironwork Centre and you can find out more here.

We will provide further information on how our school community can support the children with this challenge as soon as we hear if our application has been successful.
