Welcome to Year 4
I am Mr Bowen and I am very proud to be the Year 4 class teacher.
As a class, we are kind-hearted, sensible and enthusiastic, with a real love of learning. Our determination is always on show and we always try hard and want to improve. While doing this we help each other and show great team work. We have a wide range of interests and will give anything a go!
Our Learning
Year 4 have really enjoyed learning about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. We have been pondering questions such as "Why was Alfred Great?" and "Were the Vikings really vicious?". We loved creating characters and narrative through movement and gesture inspired by the Vikings in Dance and Movement too. Have a look at the amazing Viking Longhouses that the children made as part of an extended learning project, one even had a tiny loom inside!
In English we have been studying Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, we are absolutely amazing actors and threw ourselves into our role as Benedick when we analysed his Soliloquies about love.
For British Science Week we have been doing something every day to do with the theme, 'growth'.
We had a great time on Monday looking for worms. We identified immature and mature worms by looking at their saddles. During the lesson we discussed how important worms are because they recycle food and other things and make great soil which helps things grow.
Tuesday saw us back outside gathering daisies. We learnt that they need water, soil, light, air, and space. We discovered that leaves collect sunlight for food, stamens produce pollen, roots collect nutrients, stems keep them upright and petals attract bees.
There were a few giggles on Wednesday when we talked about animals and carbon dioxide! We studied the increase of carbon dioxide since the Anglo-Saxons and saw how it increased dramatically during the industrial revolution.
On Thursday we took part in a live lesson with farmer Jess, who talked about Global Warming and what her and her herd of cows are doing to tackle climate change. We were amazing that seaweed was being fed to the cows to stop them producing so much methane!
Comic Relief 2022
It was a beautiful Friday afternoon for Comic Relief! We talked about what we were raising money for and took part in some really fun activities in our house teams.
