Our Learning: Spring Term
In Year 3 we have had a wonderful spring term. We’ve really enjoyed our Geography work this term on Rainforests. The children have explored the geography of rainforests and are now experts at locating rainforests in the world and describing the different layers of the rainforest. Take a look at our dioramas we have worked collaboratively on. We have also loved undertaking fieldwork in our school grounds and look forward to continuing this during the summer term.
In P.E this term we have thoroughly enjoyed using the apparatus in gymnastics to explore different balances, travels and body shapes. We’ve also enjoyed performing dances using the theme ‘extreme earth’, with tsunami week being a particular favourite!
During British Science Week we focused on the theme of GROWTH. First of all, we thought about our brains and how our growing bodies sense things. we looked at strange pictures and lots of us saw very different things in them. Have a go yourself with this picture - what can you see? (DUCK/RABBIT picture here).
We also investigated whether parts of our body grow as we get older. We went around every class in the school measuring people's hands! This all tied in very well with our Science work this term, where we've been thinking about animals, including humans: nutrition, skeletal systems and muscles.
We had a wonderful time studying Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing earlier this term. Year 3 have proved themselves to be fantastic actors! They enjoyed using some of Shakespeare's language, and some of their own ideas, to roleplay an argument between the two main characters of the play, Beatrice and Benedick. Then we took it even further and produced an impressive piece of choral speaking, with all the girls playing Beatrice and all the boys as Benedick. Year 3 collaborated beautifully on this and the end result was stunning! (Photo of CHORAL SPEAKING).
We had another chance to try out our acting skills on Comic Relief Day this year. The children really went to town on their mismatched outfits and we focused on having fun all day, while still learning about the good work that Comic Relief does and how our donations help lots of children. In Year 3, we watched an old Laurel and Hardy silent film from over 90 years ago - it still made us laugh! Then the children devised their own silent comedy routines. They were hilarious - what a talented bunch they are! (Photos of COMEDY MIMES - children are in their own clothes for these).
