Baldwins Gate CE (VC) Primary School has three local churches; St Laurence’s at Chapel Chorlton, St Peter’s at Maer and Our Lady and All Saints in Whitmore, all three churches are served by Father Peter Jones.
Our Lady and All Saints Church is a Grade II listed building nestled in the village of Whitmore. With history dating back to the Conquest, this church stands as a testament to the area's heritage.
The church likely dates back to the Norman period. Over the centuries, various additions and renovations have shaped the church's appearance including a 13th-century chancel and a 14th-century tower. In the early 20th-century, the church underwent extensive restoration, preserving its historic character while making necessary repairs.
Dating back to the 12th-century, St.Laurence's church is once of the oldest buildings in the area. It has undergone serval renovations and restorations of the years, but much of its original character remains intact.
The church is a classic example of English parish church architecture. Its exterior is characterised by its simple, elegant design, with a tower and nave. Inside, traditional features such as box pews, a triple-decker pulpit and stained glass windows can be found.
St. Peter's church dates back to around 1210, making it one of the oldest buildings in the area. It has undergone several renovations and restorations over the centuries, including a significant refurbishment in the 1600s by Sir john Bowyer.
It is another classic example of English parish architecture, featuring a tower and nave design as its exterior and traditional pews, a triples-decker pulpit and stained class windows inside.
